The date of her birth is 29 March 1985 in Roswell, New Mexico. Gerina Michelle Mendoza was her birth name. Gerina Stevenson was born in Mexico to Mexican parents Alan Stevenson and Rita Stevenson. She is Mexican-American by heritage but an American nationality. From a young age her drive to become engaged in sport was strong. Gerina first began playing golf at the age of 15. Gerina graduated from high school education in Goddard High School. In high school, she won her first prize at the New Mexico golf state tournament. As a volleyball player, she was also a participant in state tournaments. In 2003, she started her studies in the University of Texas. In her senior year she was the winner of every competition she participated in. In her college career, she was crowned Conference USA individual champion player of the year and UTEP Female Athlete Of The Year.
